Carter & Sarah : Wedding Highlights, Chapel Hill, NC

Earlier this spring, out of the blue, we received the coolest card in the mail from Sarah & Carter. Sarah had come across a greeting card of a vintage film camera, which reminded her of our new logo. So, they sent it to us with a note of congratulations on our baby news! Philip and I were so blown away by the thoughtfulness of this gesture. It is just a glimpse into the nature of this couple, and made us so happy we’d get to document the day they’d get married.

Sarah & Carter were married at the Carolina Inn, right in the center of Chapel Hill, on the campus of UNC. After a quick downpour just an hour before the wedding, the sun decided to make an appearance in time for the courtyard ceremony and photo shoot at the Forest Theater on campus.  The rest of the day was a perfectly blend of reflection and festivity for the couple, their friends, and families.

S&C: Thank you for allowing us to join you for such a special day in your lives! We have no doubt you two will be completely happy together for years to come. We’ll look forward to seeing you at Kim & Joey’s wedding in October, if not sooner!

Rev. Barbara Lodge - What a FUN video! You really caught the feel of the day and I’m so glad you used Will’s reading – he did such a caring, marvelous job.

You guys are just so good at what you do – Sarah and Carter must love this!

Meredith - This was such a fun wedding film! I loved seeing a few familiar faces too!

admin - Thanks, Emily and Kim! That’s why we love the couples we work with: they notice the little details. It makes it so worth it. Can’t wait for the two of YOU to get in front of the camera (Kim, you’ve already had a practice run…)!

Kim - Yay yay! I love this video:) It is so sweet and really captures Carter and Sarah well. And Sarah looks so beautiful! As usual, amazing work by you two. Can’t wait to see you in October!

Em - So sweet! I love that you included the shot of them wiping off the chairs – it’s those “imperfect” details that will help them remember the day as it really happened! Their reader also did an amazing job, and I love that the best man squeezed the groom’s shoulder as Sarah was walking in – so sweet!

Family Photos in Durham with Sarah Der Photography

You guys know how much we love Sarah Der, right? We first filmed alongside her at Ann-Marie & Shaun’s Chapel Hill Wedding last summer, and the rest was history. We’ve quickly become friends with Sarah and her sweet hubs, Bryan, who shares our love of beer (better, he brews it!) and lets us talk endlessly about cameras and weddings without appearing bored at all. We are super grateful for their friendship and the love they’ve showered on us, especially in the last nine months of pregnancy. Sarah’s work is phenomenal; creative, and consistently fresh! We feel so lucky to have had her join us at our home to document this time of growth for our family (and my bellly!) Thanks too, Bryan, for hanging with Charlie between shots!

Dustin & Bethany : Wedding Highlights

Last year my longtime and super-close friend Trish contacted me about gifting her niece, Bethany, an Inkspot Crow wedding film! We honestly think that is the coolest wedding gift. ever. We’re so glad Trish introduced us to Bethany & Dustin. Their wedding was certainly one of our favorites! What’s NOT to love about Bethany & Dustin’s sweet wedding day? The couple is completely smitten with one another (as evidenced in their lovely, handcrafted vows) and they planned a wedding celebration that was uniquely THEM! The two married on Bethany’s family’s horse farm, on the outskirts of Charlotte, NC. They married under shady trees in the front pasture, and included their two adorable dachshunds in their intimate ceremony. As the sun set over the lake, their family and friends enjoyed an awesome Southern meal and visits with the horses, all while listening to some of the couple’s favorite tunes (how cool to hear Future Islands and Fleet Foxes played at a wedding reception!). Ok, so we were pretty smitten too!

Jake & Terri : Wedding Highlights, Chapel Hill, NC

First, can I just say that I think there should be a hora dance at each and every wedding? Seriously. It was so hard for me NOT to be swept into the circle of dancing at Terri & Jake’s joyful Carolina Inn wedding reception. We LOVED filming this part of the event because the excitement and celebration was truly contagious. The entire wedding was that way, really! This was our first time filming a  Jewish wedding  and we were so intrigued by the various traditions and customs Terri & Jake chose to incorporate into their “Kentucky meets South African” wedding celebration.

Terri’s dad gave an incredibly memorable, and comedic toast and we were so happy to include part of it in this film. One thing he says rings true to us: “Terri doesn’t have friends, Terri only has best friends”.  In the short time we’ve known Terri & Jake, we understand this to be true too. Her heart is HUGE and she seemed to find the perfect match in Jake! You two will have a  life filled with laughter, no doubt. Thank you for allowing us to capture this incredibly special day in your lives, and for making us feel like your best friends!

As a side note: this was our first time filming a wedding planned by Katie Dunn of La Fete and we loved every minute of working with Katie and her team. She pulled together a gorgeous wedding with a stellar team of wedding creatives (see below!). Thanks, Katie, for all of your hard work and attention to detail.

Jeff & Brittaney : Wedding Highlights, Fearrington Village, NC

I must admit, I was giddy to share this highlights film with Jeff & Brittaney yesterday! Their love for each other is really transparent. That, complimented by their bright springtime farm wedding makes this film one of my favorites. Also, can we please talk about how cute this couple and their friends/family are while dancing? Adorably fun and I think, quite contagious!

We’re so grateful that Nancy Ray introduced us to this sweet couple. Not only did we make new friends in Jeff & Brittaney, but we felt really honored to spend their wedding day alongside their kind, appreciative families. And, a big plus: we got to shoot this wedding with our good friends Nancy & Will Ray, who made the bride and groom feel completely at ease, and kept Philip and I smiling too! Check out Nancy’s photos from the wedding day HERE. For more of this beautiful couple, check out Brittaney’s bridal portraits and the couple’s engagement photos .

Brittaney & Jeff: thank you, truly, for including us in your wedding day. As I said, your love and joy is both transparent and contagious. We have so much faith that you two will thrive in the years ahead and are grateful you gave us the opportunity to capture the first moments of your marriage.

Blake Hubbard : in memoriam

Yesterday was Blake Hubbard’s Birthday. He would have turned 15. Last night we joined hundreds of friends and family members to celebrate Blake at a reception in his honor. You see, on January 28, 2012 Blake Hubbard died tragically after falling from an electrical tower in Durham. He’d been out with his friends, enjoying the sunny afternoon and flying paper airplanes from the tall structure. A week after the accident MacKenzie and I were contacted by Chip Denton, the headmaster at Trinity School, where Blake had been a freshman.  He said he wanted to talk to us about a project.  When we met him at Trinity School soon thereafter, we were introduced to Rick and Sonya Hove, close friends of the Hubbard family.  They wanted us to create a memorial film for Blake, to be used as a tool for healing and as a means of honoring this incredibly quirky and widely-adored kid. Rather than try to explain who Blake Hubbard was through this post, we hope you’ll watch this memorial film, which features Blake’s family and friends talking about the many and colorful facets of this extraordinary young man. Please also visit the website established in Blake’s honor: www.blakesstory.com

I should add that this has perhaps been the most challenging project we have undertaken so far, not necessarily in scope, but rather emotionally.  We didn’t take lightly the task we were given, and we can only hope that we have succeeded in a small way in honoring Blake and in documenting just a fraction of who he was. In short, we feel honored to have been given this opportunity.

We must of course thank Rick and Sonya Hove, who coordinated schedules and lined up interviews, combed through photos and video and exchanged dozens of emails with us.  We also thank Chip & Desiree Denton for reaching out to us and giving us the opportunity to work on this project.  But mostly we thank all those who agreed to sit and talk with us about Blake, some of them only weeks after his death.  We are in awe of the courage each of you displayed and thank you for partnering with us to create this film.  Jeff and Patty Hubbard, MacKenzie and I think about you nearly every day.

Melinda - cannot find the words to tell you how this video makes me feel… you have created something so special for this family. amazing.

Sarah Wilson (Graham's Mom) - Thank you for sharing this tribute. I shall pass it along to all my friends. It is, as others have said, incredible and incredibly moving.

Beth - This is an incredibly poignant film, I think it will help people to heal.

Graham - Incredible. Just simply incredible. Thank you for sharing this you two.

Meredith - Wow. What a beautiful, powerful film! Thank you for sharing Blake’s story!

michelle - oh gosh!!! this was so difficult to watch. it was so wonderfully inspirational and yet, so painful. you created something with this video. it will be difficult for the family to view this and yet they would never do without it.
thank you for such a wonderful memorial to a wonderful child!
