The Inkspot Crow Project : Congratulations Kramden Institute!

Well folks, we’re humbled by the response to our first non-profit film giveaway, The Inkspot Crow Project. We were blown away by the number and quality of organizations that applied to be part of this contest, and were even more shocked at the number of supporters that came out to vote for their favorite non-profit.

It was a close contest for most of the week, but in the last few days, supporters of the Kramden Institute came out in droves to vote for their favorite non-profit. Congratulations Kramden Institute for receiving the most votes! We’ll be excited to work with you on a promotional film very very soon!

Kramden Institute is a non-profit dedicated to empowering hardworking, yet economically disadvantaged, students to cross the digital divide. This is done by awarding thousands of PCs to students to be used to advance their academic and personal achievements. Kramden collects donated PCs, laptops, and peripherals; refurbishes the equipment; and awards the computers, thereby extending the useful life of electronics and reducing e-waste.

Philip’s Demo Reel

This year, in addition to the weddings and other projects we’re lucky enough to film, Philip is hoping to collaborate with some talented filmmakers on a few projects outside the Inkspot Crow realm. He made this demo reel, comprised entirely of footage from 2012, to highlight some of his best shooting. I’m biased, but I think he nailed it! Enjoy! -mch

Cindy - I LOVE this!! I feel honored to have some of the Cuppa film included! You are so ridiculously talented!! Awesome work!!

admin - Thanks, guys! Annie: been in love with outlined version of Futura ever since The Life Aquatic

Brett - Dude. Philip, I want to shoot stills for your first major motion picture. Okay?

Well done, sir, well done.

annie - Fabulous as per usual! Is it dorky that I love the typography you use on the title card? Design nerd alert.

FINALISTS! : The Inkspot Crow Project

Hi there, folks!

Today we’re excited to announce the three finalists in the Inkspot Crow Project, in which we’re giving away a promotional film to a non-profit doing exceptional things in NC. We were blown away by the response: 49 (FORTY-NINE!) organizations responded and entered our giveaway. A huge thank-you to all the organizations that entered, for telling us a little about yourselves and what you’re doing to make an impact. Given the time, it would certainly be an honor to work with every one of you.

Below are the three finalists, and the mission statements of each. We urge you to go over to the websites of each to find out more about what they’re up to:

Kramden Institute : empowering hardworking, yet economically disadvantaged, students to cross the digital divide. This is done by awarding thousands of PCs to students to be used to advance their academic and personal achievements. Kramden collects donated PCs, laptops, and peripherals; refurbishes the equipment; and awards the computers, thereby extending the useful life of electronics and reducing e-waste

Pay It Forward Fertility Foundation : helping to reduce the cost of infertility treatment by providing grants and to educate couples about infertility

Raleigh City Farm : transforming unexpected downtown spaces into beautiful and nourishing farmland. We will engage city dwellers in the process of growing food, sparking imaginations about agriculture in the city. These highly-visible spaces will be an educational tool to demonstrate responsible, intensive growing techniques as we move toward a restorative, community-based food system

Now it’s up to you all to decide which organization we will be working with! Please share this voting form with others, but we ask that you vote only once for your favorite organization.

From now until a week from today, Monday, February 25, voting is officially open!

Brittney Cofield-Poole - I have had the pleasure of volunteering with Kramden and seeing firsthand the real world impact of their mission. Access is a key part of success, and they do a magnificent job of helping people get there!

valerie Horton - My son who was about 10yrs old @ the time was a reciepent of. One of Kramdens computers. We also did some voluteer work with them. God bless them!!!!!

The Inkspot Crow Project

Happy New Year, world! With the start of a new year comes LOTS of reflection, and we’ve been doing our fair share of looking back and forward. Since starting Inkspot Crow in 2010, we’ve gotten to work with some beautiful non-profits; the films we’ve created with these organizations are some of the most rewarding work we’ve done. In looking toward 2013, MacKenzie and I aim to be more purposeful about seeking out work for non-profit organizations. We’re starting with this contest, in which we plan to donate our work.

So here’s how YOU can be involved. There are so many incredible things happening in our communities, yet we know that we’re only aware of a tiny fraction of them. We need your help in finding the subject of our next project. We want to create a short film for a non-profit organization in North Carolina. If you’re interested in entering and you work for / direct a non-profit organization, fill out the form at the end of this post by noon on Saturday, February 16. (NOTE: If you know of an organization that could benefit from this but you aren’t directly connected to it, please let them know by sharing this post!) From these entries, MacKenzie and I will pick THREE that we feel would best benefit from a film of our style. On Monday, 2/18, we will announce these three finalists, and the final winner will be chosen by YOU, our fans, through a vote! For you list-minded folks, I’ll reiterate:

-NOON on Saturday, 2/16: deadline for entering (via form below)

-Monday, 2/18: Inkspot Crow announces 3 finalists via our blog (and Facebook/Twitter); voting begins

-NOON on Monday, 2/25: Voting Ends + winner announced by the end of the day!

Maybe you’re only familiar with our wedding films, or you didn’t realize that we’ve done some work with non-profits. If that’s you, we encourage you to watch a few films:

So there you have it. We can’t wait to get started on this; good luck!

Cuppa Photography : Branding Film

Finally! We’re so excited to share the branding film we produced for Cuppa Photography! Since the moment we wrapped shooting in Freeport, Maine, we’ve been itching to sit down and edit this one. We left the shoot knowing we had some stellar shots from our adventures in the woods (trail running, folks!!) and on the lake, and we had a blast getting to know Cindy and Justin through this process.

We met Cindy through my sister, Meredith Perdue, and then luckily had the good fortune to work with her at THIS WEDDING in Chapel Hill in 2011. If you’ve ever met Cindy, you know she’s just a joy to be around. Working with her (and her awesome husband) on this film was such a treat! As a client, Cindy struck the perfect balance of guidance (she shared the coolest inspiration board which you can see HERE) and faith in our process. It’s really thrilling to work with people who are intense and excited about what we’re creating with them, but at the same time, allow us to take their vision and run with it.

Cindy and Justin are filled with adventurous spirit, warmth, and genuine hospitality. Whether it’s through our film or through working with them, we hope you get to experience knowing these two very special people.

Many thanks, C+J, for inviting us to spend a whole day PLAYING with you two and your friends. We truly loved every minute of it!

p.s. Want to read about Cindy’s experience working with us? Her blog post is HERE.
