Life with Tess : a documentary about love.

What a joy it was to spend the afternoon with Jill, Richard & Tess!  Oh, sweet Tess!  She can (almost literally) brighten up your day just by smiling (or talking!) at you. Having known Richard & Jill prior to Tess’s arrival into their life, it’s been great to see the evolution of this dynamic family.  Richard was Philip’s mentor during his years as a teacher and Philip observed Tess’s first year through iPhone photos Richard would proudly bring to school. We were so thrilled to capture the whole family on film and especially lovely little Tess!

Ironically, this Japanese song is so fitting for this film. Philip picked this song because of its boisterous, fun tempo and melody. When he realized the song was actually sung in Japanese, we laughed! It was almost like Tess talking to us! We didn’t know what she was saying, and it didn’t really matter, because we could tell she was bubbling with joy and love.

Waiting For Clay : a documentary about love

When MacKenzie and I decided on “Documentaries About Love” as the tagline for Inkspot Crow, we were going for two things: that we shoot in an impromptu, documentary style and that the common thread of our work is the prevalence of love itself. That said, I’ve got a particularly special place in my heart for this film since the warm and entertaining people in it are my sister and her family.

I must confess that I’m a bit biased here, but Virginia and Henry are the cutest kids in America, and Holly and Billy are the role models MacKenzie and I look to when the time comes for us to start our own family. I could not be more proud to call them family and to introduce them to those of you that haven’t yet had the privilege of meeting them.

So much of the love we capture is on wedding days, but this film documents a different form of love. We did our best to provide a snapshot of the anticipation and entirely unique set of emotions that accompanies the week leading up to the birth of a child.

Ghanima Turns Four : A Celebration : Cary, NC

After meeting at the Franklins’ New Year’s Eve wedding, Christobal Perez of Azul Photography was kind enough to recommend us to film this amazing four-year-old’s birthday party! Set at the Umstead Hotel, DJ Ken of Joe Bunn DJ Company kept the dance floor lively while guests enjoyed kid-sized snacks and balloon figures made by Strawberry Shortcake. The surprise guest of the day was Disney pop-star Anna Margaret, who sang and danced with the birthday girl and her friends. Thank you for including us in this day. We had so much fun watching all of the families celebrate Ghanima!

Jesse Loves Julie : a documentary about love

This is our first “Documentary About Love”, which is our short-film documenting your love story. We shot and edited this before the wedding of our dear friends Jesse and Julie DeConto. As fellow Durham-lovers, Jesse and Julie wanted to film their family in the neighborhoods where we spend much of our time. We chose Trinity Park because of it’s awesome gardens, fun playground and its proximity to downtown- making it the perfect spot for a walk to Brightleaf for a post-shoot dinner El Rodeo! We were shocked and honored that J&J decided to use this film as the prelude to their wedding ceremony. The wedding itself was amazing and also embraced the couple’s love for Durham! We’ll have the wedding highlights film up in a few weeks.
